Always trim to 1/4” before you light a candle. The first burn should be about 4 hours (or until the top layer melts completely to the edges), to prevent your candle tunneling. This ensures the melt pool reaches the edge and prevents a "memory ring" or tunnel.
Trim your candle wick to 1/4" before every single burn. A short wick controls the flame size and prevents excess heat or soot.
